The Royals had the best deadline move in baseball in getting Kris Medlen off the DL

The Kansas City Royals signed Kris Medlen to a 2 year deal (+ a mutual option year) last December worth $8.5 million. The signing was viewed as a risky one, as Medlen was coming off a second Tommy John surgery and wouldn’t even be able to pitch until late in the first year of that deal, at the earliest. But give props to Dayton Moore and the Royals for taking that risk when (sadly for us at modernpastime) the Braves, and presumably the rest of the league, would not.
